GUANGZHOU, Nov 24: Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India 2-0 in the semi-final of the squash team event at the Asian Games Town Gymnasium on Wednesday. In the first match, Pakistan’s Farhan Mahboob withstood a stern challenge from India’s Siddharth Nimesh sidelining him 3-1.
“The players displayed a wonderful game and did not give any room to the Indians,” said a Pakistan Sports Ministry official.
Farhan displayed some powerful backhand shots and took advantage of his left-handed game during the 83-minute decider.
Farhan won the first game 16-14 whereas Siddharth made a good comeback in the second winning it 10-12.
Farhan lifted third and fourth games 11-9 and 11-5.
During the second match, Aamir Atlas Khan defeated Suarav Ghosal.
Aamir raced to win within a span of 52 minutes defeating Suarav 3-1.
“I played my natural game,” said the winner.
Aamir won the first game 15-13 but lost the second 5-11.
Though Aamir, also the nephew of Jansher Khan, made a steady comeback during the third game 11-5 and lifted the last in similar fashion 11-5.
The national squad is set to play Malaysia in the final of the team event scheduled to be held at 2pm [11:00 PST].
