KARACHI, Nov 26: An island has emerged in the sea about three kilometres off the coast of Balochistan near Hangol, news TV channels reported on Friday. The island is about 3km long with almost the same width and 90 feet above the sea level.

Reports quoting geologists said that some seismic activity along the coastal area had caused the emergence of the island, most of whose surface is white.

Sami Ibraheem of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum told Express 24/7 channel that the island had surfaced on the route used by local fishing boats.

Panic gripped the Hangol fishing community who feared the island might erupt throwing huge quantities of lava into the area.

According to another TV channel, a similar island had emerged in the 90s only to disappear after some time.
