PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani vowed here on Tuesday that his government would bring the killers of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto to justice and directed interior minister Rehman Malik to trace out the culprits and put them on trial as the people wish.

“Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was not the leader of Pakistan alone but a world leader,” said Mr Gilani during his visit of Peshawar where he spoke to the party workers at two different functions arranged in connection with the 44th founding day of the Pakistan People's Party.

These functions were held at the Governor's House and Nishtar Hall.

The prime minister said that repeated sabotage acts had badly affected the country's economy and the government was making serious efforts to uproot the menace of militancy.

He said that the government had devised polices for strengthening the country's economy, creation of new opportunities of employment, overcoming price hike and bringing a positive change in the life of common people.

The prime minister said that the government was conducting surveys to compensate the flood-stricken people. He directed the provincial governments to expedite work on the survey process and extend financial support to people. He also announced construction of a flyover on University Road.

Mr Gilani said that the provincial governments should ensure availability of sugar at reasonable rates, as sugarcane production had increased this year and sugar was also available in abundance. The only reason for sugar crisis is hoarding, he said and ordered the provincial governments to launch strict action against hoarders.

He also directed ministers to avoid wasting time by sitting in offices and visit their respective areas for solution of peoples' problems.

The prime minister directed the provincial governments to take effective steps for restoration of peace and stability, which was necessary for attracting investment. He said that with growing investment people would also start getting job opportunities.

Mr Gilani appreciated the sacrifices rendered by the personnel of law-enforcement agencies for the cause of their country. He paid tribute to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's efforts and determination to eliminate terrorism from the country's soil.

He also recalled the services of party's founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for the country and its people.
