ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met at the Presidency on Wednesday and decided to keep quiet on US diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks.
Sources said the two leaders discussed the leaked cables and their possible fallout.
President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar was not available for comment. However, a senior official said that the media team of the presidency had been asked not to issue any comment on WikiLeaks reports.
Later, the spokesman issued a press release saying the meeting focussed on the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Sri Lanka.
“The prime minister felicitated the president on a very successful and productive visit to Sri Lanka which will help to further cement and strengthen bilateral relations,” he said.
The president briefed the prime minister on a series of meetings held with the Sri Lankan leadership and the signing of three agreements and two MoUs.
