SWABI, Dec 2: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday held a protest demonstration against rising prices of essential commodities and the government’s plan to introduce Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST).
The protesting party activists gathered on Swabi-Maneri road and marched to Kernel Sher Khan Chowk where the protest turned into a public gathering.
Carrying placards and banners the PTI activists claimed that the RGST would result in increase of prices of different commodities and bring more miseries to consumers.
They said that instead the government should recover looted money of the country and impose tax on big landlords.
Asad Qaisar, PTI’s provincial president, said that the poor did not know how to cope with soaring prices of commodities and if the current trend continued there could be law and order situation in the country.
“We want the rulers to bring back the looted money of people from foreign banks and to impose taxes on the affluent class of the country,” Mr Qaiser said.
Atif Khan, party’s Mardan district president, said that the government had given free hand to entrepreneurs to loot people.
Other activists said that the introduction of RGST would pave the way for more price hike and corruption in the country.
They said that instead of imposing the RGST the government should take steps to check corruption.
