Dug up Swabi roads

Published December 5, 2010

SWABI, Dec 4: Public and goods transporters on Saturday demanded of the government to direct the Frontier Highway Authority to speed up work on construction of roads in the district because they had been suffering because of dug up roads for the last 18 months.

At a meeting the transporters said despite their repeated pleas the authorities were silent spectators towards slow pace of work on the Swabi-Jeghangira and Swabi-Topi roads.

They alleged the government had given contracts of all roads to one contractor, who did not have enough machinery to accelerate the work.

Due to dug up roads people are suffering as transporters avoid plying their vehicles on under construction roads.

The work on two roads started over a year and a half ago but there is still no sign their construction would be completed even months after the deadline.
