LAHORE, Dec 24: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan says investigation into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto should begin from former president Pervez Musharraf because officers like Saud Aziz were just pawns.

Talking to reporters at the Qul of the mother of PPP leader Munawwar Anjum here on Friday, Ahsan said Aziz was a pawn who hosed down the crime scene to destroy the vital evidence.

He said Musharraf had mentioned in his book that the crime scene was preserved for two weeks after an attempt on his life and a SIM was found there that led the investigators to real culprits.

He said Musharraf was the ruler at that time and he was responsible for hosing down of the crime scene. He said PPP Secretary-General Jehangir Badr also named Musharraf the 'killer' of Ms Bhutto therefore investigation should begin from him.

Earlier, speaking at a function organised by Nazim Husain Shah in connection with the death anniversary of Ms Bhutto here on Friday, Badr said the UN investigation had held Musharraf responsible for the assassination of Ms Bhutto, but his party did not want to take revenge on the killers of the former prime minister.
