CHITRAL, Dec 25: Prince Ghulam Mohiuddin, the son of the former ruler of Chitral, Sir Shujaul Mulk (1895-1936) died in Abbottabad on Saturday after protracted illness at the age of 88. He will be laid to rest here on Sunday.

He was the second last surviving prince among his sixteen brothers, had served in the British Army and participated in the Second World War.

He also commanded a section of the liberation force of Chitral State which had been dispatched to Skardu in 1948 to liberate it from Maharaja of Kashmir.

After his retirement from the army as major in 1950s, Ghulam Mohiuddin went into seclusion. Later he was associated with Naqshbandia chain of mysticism.

He was popular with the name of Lasprik Shahzada as he was fostered in Laspur valley. He had been granted fief at Mizhigram Lotkoh valley where he passed his life.

His father Shujaul Mulk ruled the Chitral state from 1895 to 1936 and is known as the ruler of longest tenure of Katoor dynasty. Like the other princes of the time, he got his schooling at Dheradoon India and later joined the British Army as commissioned officer.

Ghulam Mohiuddin was the uncle of the incumbent MNA of Chitral Shahzada Mohiuddin and left behind three princes Brigadier Dr Shujaul Mulk, Dr Khurshidul Mulk and Shahzada Razaul Mulk and a princess Dr Shahzadi Kaneez Fatima. With the demise of Shahzada Ghulam Mohiuddin, the only surviving prince of the dynasty is Shahzada Khosh Ahmadul Mulk of Ayun.
