ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: Army's dreams of winning another National Games' soccer gold were shattered on Tuesday when they were handed 0-1 defeat by Wapda in the first semi-final here on Tuesday.
Wapda dominated the 90-minute tussle as both teams fielded under-strength sides as most of their players were busy in the PPFL at Karachi.
The lone goal of the match was scored by international striker Jadeed Khan in the 12th minute.
PAF trounced Navy 2-0 in the other pre-final.
The winners were 1-0 up at the interval, courtesy of front runner Mohammad Zeeshan who capitalised on Mohammad Mujahid's pass to steer the ball past keeper Ishaq Ahmed.
Navy failed to understand condition of pitch and atmosphere and went out of contention when midfielder Mohammad Usman unleashed a powerful drive from the edge of the area in the 79th minute.
The final will be played on Wednesday after Army's clash with Navy for the bronze medal.—Agencies
