PESHAWAR: Aamir Atlas Khan led Wapda’s dominance in the squash team event at National Games on Tuesday, as they won all of their first-round matches at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
Wapda’s Aamir Atlas Khan, who won the men’s squash gold on Monday, brushed aside Mujahid Hussain of Army in straight sets (11-5, 11-4, 11-7). His teammate Yasir Butt also scored an easy win, beating Shah Nawaz of Army (11-6, 11-8, 11-9), while Nasir Iqbal beat Raees Khan 3-1 (11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9).
In the second tie, played between HEC and Sindh, Sheikh Saqib of HEC overcame Azam Khan of Sindh 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-1, while Sindh’s Azam Khan Jr. beat Tahir Iqbal of HEC 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10. Aqib Haneef beat Kashif Khan in four sets (9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7) to bag the tie for HEC.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also advanced to the next round, after completing a clean-sweep over Balochistan as Waqar Mahboob, Waqas Mahboob and Bilal Zakir won their respective matches against Murtaza Yousaf, Saifullah Karkar and Zainuddin in straight sets.
In last round of matches, Punjab overcame Pakistan Air Force to enter the second round. Punjab’s Hamza Bokhari of beat Safeer Khan (PAF) in a five-set thriller (11-2, 12-10, 11-13, 9-11, 11-8) while Farhan Zaman of PAF levelled the tie when he beat Oragnzeb Mohmand of Punjab 3-11, 14-16, 12-10, 7-11. Punjab’s Shoaib Hassan, however, won the tie for his team when he beat Naveed Atlas 10-12, 13-11, 11-9 and 11-9.
