ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: An exhibition of photographs, “Fighter of Democracy”, on the life, works and contribution of late Benazir Bhutto was held at Lok Virsa on Thursday.

Inaugurated by Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, the exhibition depicted the life of the former prime minister, in different phases with family, including her father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, mother Nusrat Bhutto, sister Sanam Bhutto, brothers Shahnawaz and Murtaza Bhutto, husband Asif Ali Zardari and their three children.

Images both coloured and black and white captured historical moments, including her interactions with world leaders, including George Bush Sr, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Francois Mitterrand, Yasser Arafat, Indira Gandhi and Hamid Karzai.

The images also reflected contributions during her two tenures as prime minister, and her endeavours for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan which culminated in her assassination in December 2007.

The collection at the Heritage Museum remembered the former prime minister as voice of the people. “She gave political vision of democracy. People had trust and confidence in her leadership,” said Minister Jilani.

The exhibition was an effort to pay tribute to late Ms Bhutto for her sacrifice for the people and democracy, said Lok Virsa's Executive Director, Khalid Javaid.
