KARACHI, Jan 3: Defending champions Wapda will face Punjab Whites in the opening match of the 26th PIA Women Hockey Championship at 9.30am at the Hockey Club of Pakistan here on Tuesday.

Organised by Sindh Women Hockey Association (SWHA) in collaboration with PIA and NBP, the championship features 10 teams, namely, Wapda, Army, Railways, Sindh Colour, Sindh White, Punjab Colour, Punjab White, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, SWHA has announced that no player over the age of 30 will be allowed to play in the event and if any of the girls are found with fake documents; action will be taken not just against them but also their team manager.

Apart from the winners, there will also be an award for Fair Play along with individual prizes for best goalkeeper, best player and the top scorer.

The championship concludes on Jan 12.
