LAHORE, Jan 10: Known music composer Mian Sheheryar, who died at the Shalamar Hospital late on Sunday night, was laid to rest at the Harbanspura graveyard here on Monday afternoon. He was 84.

A large number of people, including PTV’s Lahore general manager Farrukh Bashir, singer Dr Amjad Pervaiz and former PTV producer Mushtaq Sufi, attended his funeral prayers.

Qul will be held on Tuesday (today) after Fajr prayers at the Harbanspura Mosque.

Mian Sheheryar was born in Lahore in 1928 and had a long association with the Pakistan Television.

He introduced a number of singers, including Naseem Begum, Hamid Ali Khan, Iren Parveen, Iqbal Bahoo, Shabnam Majeed and Hadiqa Kayani.

Some of his famous compositions were, Dil Ki Basti Ajeeb Basti Hia, Aie Meray Watan Kay Sajeelay Jawano and Tassawar Khanum’s Bari Thani Charya.

He also produced a few movies and composed their music such as Bibi and Taj. His debut film as a music composer was Baygunah in which he introduced Naseem Begum.

He got associated with the PTV since it’s inception in 1964 and remained with it till his last days. He also composed music for a number of TV programmes and serials such as Dais Perdais, Goonj, Kook and Khushboo. He also composed the poetry of the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan.

It was an anthem on Kashmir “Phir Noor-i-Salasal Mein Saroor-i-Azli Hai”.

He also composed Qaseeda Burda Sharif in five languages.

He was awarded the Pride of Performance in 1992.
