KARACHI: Wapda maintained their dominance in the domestic circuit, winning the 26th PIA National Women Hockey Championship  as the beat Pakistan Railways 3-0 in the final at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Tuesday.

Wapda, maintaining their great run in the group stages, put on a better show against 13-time champion Railways to retain their crown in ten-team competition. It was their fourth title in a row.

Railways did offer stubborn resistance in the first half of the match but Wapda’s mounting pressure finally saw them break through and score in the 15th minute through Rabia Qasir’s field goal.

Spearhead Aniza Bashir blasted a field goal in 53rd minute and captain Azra Nasir scored the third for Wapda three minutes from time to seal the fate of the match.

Earlier in the day, Punjab Colours secured third spot when they came from behind to overcame a spirited Pakistan Army side 2-1. The match was locked 1-1 at the half time.

Mariah and Zarina Habib scored for Punjab while Shaheen Ameen struck for Army.
