LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday said that there was no need of a military operation in Karachi, affirming the federal government would back all decisions by the Sindh government to control the prevailing situation.
Talking to the media at a local hotel, he said that law and order was a provincial subject and the federal government intervenes on the request of a provincial government only, adding that federal government has provided every kind of succour to the Sindh government so far.
Kaira said that Karachi holds significance for all provinces since the situation in Karachi is directly linked with the whole country.
The federal minister clarified that the real problem in the country including Karachi was the enforcement of law and the government cannot enforce law single-handedly and urged all political as well as religious parties to stand by the government for the enforcement of law.
He said that the possibility of involvement of foreign elements was not out of question as these could also be involved in the worsening law and order situation in Karachi.
The minister hinted at convening the National Assmebly session to seek a viable solution of the situation in Karachi, adding that any decision regarding the Karachi situation would be taken in consultation with all political parties.
