RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: The team investigating the assassination of Benazir Bhutto on Saturday obtained remand for another 10 days of former chief of Rawalpindi police Syed Saud Aziz and SP Khurram Shahzad as they are yet to hand over the cellular phones that were in their use on the day of the crime.

“I do not remember what was the model and colour of the cell phone I was using in 2007 and I have handed over the SIM number and all the contact data to the investigators. When I do not have the phone how can I give it to the federal investigation team,” argued former CPO Aziz before the court.

The special judge of Anti-Terrorism Court-III accepted the plea of the prosecutor, Chaudhry Zulfiqar, for the custody of the two policemen for another 10 days.

Advocate Malik Waheed Anjum representing the accused police officers opposed the demand for further remand in the court, saying there was no need of further interrogation as the FIA team had been provided all relevant details.

The court, citing the decision of the Lahore High Court, accepted the plea for extension of remand period, saying the court had observed that the phones had to be recovered from the accused.
