KHAIRPUR, Jan 26: DCO of Khairpur Mohammad Abbas Baloch and irrigation officials of Sukkur and Khairpur visited the Ulra protective embankment of River Indus on Wednesday and witnessed the river eroding its banks at some distance from the dyke.
Local people have been demanding strengthening of the river banks.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had also taken notice of the matter and issued directives to the officials concerned.
The DCO told this reporter that he, chief engineer of Sukkur Barrage and other irrigation officials visited the location.
He said that the point where the Indus was eroding the banks was at a distance of 400 meters from the Ulra dyke.
He said that after the visit, they had decided that stone-pitching would be started at the spot soon.
Emergency schemes approved for repair of river embankments also included the Ulra embankment, he said.
