ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: The Turkish company Karkey's second powership 'Alican Bey' has arrived Karachi in a bid to support efforts of government of Pakistan to overcome energy crisis. In a briefing to the ministry of water and power, the company officials said that the total project installed capacity would be 330MW as compared to the contract capacity of 232 MW.

“In case of any shortfall in the coming summer, the additional capacity would be instrumental in meeting the power needs of industrial sectors and manufacturing units of Karachi.,” the ministry was informed.

Company officials said that a specialised submersible vessel from Singapore (MV STX Rose 1) had arrived outside the port of Karachi carrying the second Karadeniz Powership Alican Bey (Barge Mounted Power Plant) along with a supporting work floating platform.

The first powership of Kaya Bey arrived in the country on Nov 17, 2010. Kaya Bey had reached its final destination in Korangi and all equipment had been fastened and stored in sea tight conditions to avoid any technical problems during the high waves in the open sea.

The first dispatch of electricity of over 110 MWs was completed on Jan 29 as an initial batch but had to wait for the completion of administrative procedures related to Pepco and other relevant authorities to go up to full capacity, official stated.
