Everyone in Karachi has a soft spot for Saddar – be it the electronics (or paper, bottle, Zainab, Lea or Empress) market, Burns Road or M. A Jinnah Road – Saddar gives Karachi personality. Unrest during the Second World War made many Chinese flee their homeland and settle in Pakistan – mostly in Karachi. To earn a living they started working as beauticians, shoemakers, chefs and dentists.

Dawn.com takes a look at the variety of Chinese dentists, sexologists and health practitioners operating in Saddar. – Photos and text by Tooba Masood for Dawn.com
