Snowfall in Murree

MURREE: Tourists poured into Murree and its surroundings in large numbers as light snowfall continued in the hilly area on Monday.

Huge traffic jams were observed due to rush of vehicles to the resort town.

The highway department started clearing the road early in the morning but the snowfall continued throughout the day. By evening about seven inches of snow had fallen.

The Met Office has forecast more snowfall.

Electricity in most of the rural areas remained suspended since Sunday evening and the locals faced immense hardship as they have no alternative source of fuel.  The Murree city has been provided with natural gas but people living in the nearby rural areas still depend on firewood for fuel.— Correspondent
