ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: The Supreme Court on Monday appointed former Supreme Court Judge Abdul Shakoorul Islam to head the committee for ascertaining the properties left by late Amir of Bahawalpur within three months.

The case of distribution of the property of Sir Sadiq Mohammad Khan Abbasi has been going on for three decades but distribution of the assets could not be completed. The Amir died in 1965.

The government had earlier appointed two commissions for the distribution of the assets without any success.

The bench, which had reserved the judgment last month, on Monday announced the detailed judgment.

The SC bench, comprising Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri, Justice Munir A. Sheikh, and Justice Rana Bhagwandas, declared that retired SC judge and former federal ombudsman Shakoorul Islam would head the committee for ascertaining the properties left by the late Amir and the extent of the shares of claimants.

The committee will suggest the mode of the distribution of the properties amongst the heirs, in the light of the two judgments rendered by the court and make recommendations to the government.

Justice Salam retired was requested to conclude the recommendations within three months, if possible. The court directed the government to constitute the committee within 60 days.

The appeal filed by Prince A.M. Abbasi and Princess Rafiquah Abbasi was accepted.
