Thousands of defiant Iranian opposition supporters moved in scattered groups in Tehran and staged what they said was a rally supporting Arab revolts. Eyewitnesses report that sporadic clashes have erupted in central Tehran's Enghelab or Revolution square between security forces and opposition protesters.

On the other hand, more than 1,000 people protested in Yemen, demanding political reforms and the ouster of the US-allied president in demonstrations inspired by the upheaval in Egypt. Anti-government protesters clashed with police trying to prevent them from marching towards Yemen's presidential palace in Sanaa, witnesses said.

In Algeria, some thousands of people defied a government ban on demonstrations and poured into Algiers for a pro-democracy rally on Saturday, a day after weeks of mass protests toppled Egypt's authoritarian leader.
