KARACHI: Yusuf Abdullah Haroon, a close confidant of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, was laid to rest on Thursday in the Gizri graveyard, beside his brother Mehmood Abdullah Haroon.

The funeral prayer was led by Allama Syed Kausar Abbas Naqvi. The Soyem and Majlis will be held between Asr and Maghrib at the Haroon Villa in Clifton near 'Do Talwar', with separate arrangements for women. The Majlis will be led by Allama Syed Abbas Komaili.

He was given a tearful send off by members of the family and a large number of his friends and admirers from various sections of the society.

Included among them were former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, former Sindh governors Kamal Azfar and Lt-Gen (retd) Moinuddin Haider, ex-speaker of National Assembly Illahi Bux Soomro, former defence minister Aftab Shaaban Mirani, ex-deputy speaker of Sindh Assembly Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, former minister Sarfraz Ahmad, veteran politicians Sardar Sherbaz Khan Mazari, Yusuf Mastikhan, Afzal Mastikhan, Ambassador-at-Large Zia Ispahani, Sindh Ministers Syed Sardar Ahmad and Raza Haroon, Rashid Rabbani, Lt-Gen (retd) Tanvir Naqvi, Wing Commander (retd) Faheem Baig, Qazi Mohammad Azam advocate, Munawwar Hidayatullah, Maqbool Rehmatullah and Haji Mohammad Yunus.

The funeral was attended also by editors Arshad Zuberi, Qazi Asad Abid and Mukhtar Aqil, veteran journalists Ardeshir Cowasjee, Ghazi Salahuddin and Madad Ali Sindhi, business leaders Mian Mohammad Mansha, Azam Saigol, Shams Lakha, Akbar Hashwani, Rafi Muneer, Yusuf Shirazi, Kafeel Burni and Aqeel Karim Dhedi and family friends Agha Jan Akhtar and Aslam Sanjrani.— Staff Reporter
