KHADUKHEL may be a backward and neglected area of Buner but, apart from its rich history and culture, it is a major centre of Gandhara civilisation. Sadly, very few people know this fact.

The relics found in the area make it a major centre of Gandhara civilisation. The most famous relic is the Rani Gut of the Nogram village surrounded by mountains, touching southern borders of Swabi district. The elders of the area say that a queen or rani was the ruler here and she would often preside over meetings held over the top of this stone known as Rani Gut, meaning stone of rani or queen.

One can also see long caves and gigantic stones of old ages. Likewise, a variety of pots, pitchers, dry wells, and ancient buildings, reflecting Gandhara civilisation can also be seen in the area. These relics are being protected with the assistance of the US and Japanese governments.

During my recent visit to the sight I was told by an official that an Indian historian had discovered the site in 1920. It is about a 1500 years old site and its history dates back to 400 or 500 BC.

Moreover, another historical sight — Qablayee — is in the Chinglai village of Khadukhel. Here also one can see precious and unique stones. Sadly, due to the negligence of the relevant quarters, the area is yet to be developed as a tourist sight.

All these sights are national treasure, but are yet to be developed as tourist attractions. The departments of archeology and culture are requested to visit the area and conduct a survey of these sights in order to bring them on a par with other sights of Gandhara civilisation. It would certainly play a big role in social and economic development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
