SWABI, Feb 27: All the pay centres in primary schools of the district have been abolished with immediate effect and teachers will now receive their salaries through banks of their choice, sources told this correspondent here on Saturday.

They said that executive district officer, education, Abdul Salam took this decision after some senior teachers complained that they were overburdened with the distribution of salaries among the staff while defending their poor performance in imparting education.

“Wastage of time and poor performance is not acceptable,” sources quoted Mr Salam as saying at a meeting.

Salaries of middle, high and higher secondary schools staff are already distributed through banks, the sources said.

“The teachers are now left with no excuse for their under-performance. Any teacher responsible for dereliction of duty will face action,” the sources said quoting another officer of the education department.

The sources said that the meeting noted with concern that head teachers of some primary schools did not take any class for the whole year. “This practice should stop immediately. The head teacher should be a role model for his staff,” said an official.
