Published October 10, 2002

LAHORE, Oct 9: Pakistan Awami Tehrik chief Prof Dr Tahirul Qadri and his 69 party workers were booked on Wednesday on the charges of attacking a PML-Q rally and kidnapping its three participants.

Asghar Azam of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) told the Green Town police that his party had held a rally late on Tuesday night in NA-127.

He said the PAT workers had pelted the participants of the rally with stones, wounding six people, outside an election office of the party on Peco Road. He further alleged that the PAT activists had kidnapped three participants of the rally.

Those kidnapped were named as Azam, Hamayoun and Munir. They were bundled into a car and whisked away. The injured were taken to the Jinnah Hospital and discharged after first aid.

Azam said the rally had been attacked on the directions of Prof Dr Tahirul Qadri, while Qadri’s son, Hassan Mohayouddin, had led the attack.

CLASH: No case was registered on Wednesday in connection with a clash between the workers of the PML-N and the PML-Q at Chahmeeran in Shadbagh late on Tuesday night.

Two people sustained injuries in the clash. They were taken to the Shalamar Hospital and discharged after first aid.

The police said they had not registered a case as both the parties had reported to them that they had reached an agreement.
