KARACHI: Pakistan seized a 2-1 lead over hosts Hong Kong  on the second and penultimate day of the Davis Cup Asia Oceania zone group II first-round tie on Saturday.

According to the results made available here, Pakistan's top guns, Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan, teamed up to beat the host nation's duo of Jonathan Chu and Vanwyk Coenie 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 to surge in the best-of-five encounter.

Earlier, Pakistan and Hong Kong China had ended the opening day on equal terms (1-1). Hiu-Tung Yu gave Hong Kong a sound start when he shocked Aisam-ul-Haq 3-2 in the fully stretched battle while Aqeel levelled the score disposing of Martin Sayer straight.

The reverse singles are being played on Sunday.

Results: Singles: Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi lost to Hiu-Tung Yu 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 5-7, 4-6; Aqeel Khan bt Martin Sayer 7-5, 7-5, 6-4. Doubles: Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi/Aqeel Khan bt Jonathan Chu/Vanwyk Coenie 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4.
