PARACHINAR / GHALANAI, March 6: Ten militants were killed in shelling by helicopter gunships in Kurram Agency, five others died in an exchange of fire with security forces in Swat and a volunteer of peace committee lost his life in militants’ attack on a security post in Mohmand on Sunday. Official sources said that helicopter gunships attacked militant hideouts in Chinarak and Spairkat areas of central Kurram along the Orakzai agency border. Ten militants were killed and eight others injured.

Eight hideouts were destroyed.

Gunmen kidnapped two children — Akbar Hussain and Jalil Hussain — belonging to the Turi tribe from Makhizai area of central Kurram and took them to an undisclosed location.The Turi tribe elders have called a jirga to take up the issue with the authorities concerned.In Swat, five militants were killed and a security man was injured in a shoot-out that took place when suspected militants were trying to sneak into Swat from Dir.

Three of the dead were identified as Fazal Hussain of Kotta, Sher Ali of Aboha and Mohammad Zeb of Charbagh. Security sources said that a suicide jacket, material used in making of bombs and arms were seized.

In Mohmand, militants attacked a check-post of volunteers in Manzari Chena area of Bezai tehsil with heavy weapons on Saturday night.

Eight volunteers were injured and taken to hospital where one died.

Sources said that two other volunteers were missing.
