LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed an application for early hearing of a pending petition seeking disqualification of Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Leader of the Parliamentary party of PML-Q Unification Bloc.

Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad observed that the petition could not be fixed for early hearing as the LHC was facing scarcity of judges.

The main petition was filed by Zaheer Ahmed Naz, Allah Rakha Azhar, Nasir Mehmood and Mohammed Aslam through their counsel Bilal Minto.

The counsel argued that Dr Javed, who was elected to the Punjab Assembly from Pakistan Muslim Leaque-Quaid (PML-Q) platform in the February 2008 general election, was not fit to hold office on the basis of alleged corruption, fraud and illegal medical practice in the United States.

He said it was unfortunate that who had been considered to be dangerous to human life, health and welfare of the people at large, had been a health minister of the province and now sat as a member of the provincial assembly of the Punjab.

He pointed out that Dr Javed, who practiced medicine in the United States between 1998 and 2002, was repeatedly struck off medical registrars in three states (Nebraska, New York and South Carolina) in September 2003, March 2004 and February 2006.
