LAHORE, March 9: Customs lifted the National Under-19 Junior hockey championship title by defeating National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 5-4 on penalty-strokes in the final at the Bahawalpur Stadium on Tuesday night. After levelling at 1-1 at the end of the regulation time, the extra half also failed to produce result.
Five penalty-strokes were then given to each side to decide the winner in which Customs cashed in on four while National Bank of Pakistan misfired two.
For the winners, Mohsin Sabir struck a goal in the 24th minute of the scheduled time.
Khurram Shahzad restored the parity in the 37th minute. Both the goals were scored through field attempts.
Mohsin Sabir, Mohammad Adnan, Kamran Asif and Mohammad Ali Bhatti all converted their penalty-strokes for Customs.
For NBP, Ali Hassan, Ayub Ali and Bilal Qadir hit successful penalty-strokes.
Sui Southern Gas Company earned third place by defeating Wapda 4-2.
Mohammad Zahid (30th), Zohaib Ashraf (32nd), Arsalan Sherazi (62nd) and Kashif Shah (63rd) were the scorers for the winners.
For Wapda, Abdul Kareem (17th) and Mohammad Umair (48th) were the scorers.
Mohammad Dilbar of the National Bank of Pakistan was declared the best player of the tournament.
