LAHORE, March 9: Punjab Police Inspector General Javed Iqbal has said three suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the Faisalabad bomb explosion. Talking to the media after passing out parade of the 7th Intermediate Course at Police Training School in Chuhng on Wednesday, the IG said the Punjab government and law enforcement agencies were taking measures for eradication of terrorism from the province. He said police were leading the war against terrorism from the front and several police officials sacrificed their lives in the line of their duties.

As many as 487 policemen passed the intermediate course at the Police Training School.

Earlier, speaking to the parade, the IG said the new recruits should be determined to deal with terrorism and extremism.

Later, the IG laid foundation stone of the monuments being built in the memory of policemen who lost their lives in incidents of terrorism.

SHOT DEAD: A father of four was shot dead by a youth over a petty issue in Shafiqabad on Wednesday.

Reports said Abdul Jabbar, a resident of Lohari Gate, was the manger of a plaza in Karim Park. On Wednesday, shopkeeper Amjad Rasheed exchanged harsh words with Jabbar when the later forbade him from teasing a girl.

Quoting victim’s brother Abdul Ghaffar, the police said Rasheed opened fire on Jabbar and fled the scene. Jabbar was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The police registered a case against the killer on the complaint of Ghaffar.
