ISLAMABAD: The Army had refused to participate in population census that were to be held this year in September due to its engagement in war on terror, said Statistical Division sources on Tuesday.

According to official sources, a letter was sent to the Army seeking its help during the census.

The military leadership refused to take part in the process due to its engagement in war against terror and its deployment on eastern and western borders of the country.

The Army, however, said it would deploy troops to help civil administration in the sensitive areas to be identified by the provincial governments, said sources.

Statistical Division spokesman, Qazi Saeedul Hassan, said that army had its own engagements and it would be deployed in specific areas only.

The process of census will start from April.
