Chaudhrys sweep the board

GUJRAT, Oct 11: The Chaudhrys of Gujrat have made a clean sweep in the Gujrat tehsil by defeating political heavyweights of the PPP.

Overall, the PML-QA has emerged as a major political party in Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Jhelum districts by winning four out of eight national and 12 out of 17 provincial assembly seats.

The PPP has also showed good results by securing three national and as many seats of the provincial assembly while PML-N could bag only one each seat of national and provincial assembly.

In NA-104, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain (PML-QA) remained successful by obtaining 81,914 votes against Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gul (PPP) who secured 62,520 votes.

Khalid Asghar Ghurral (PML-QA) obtained 38,571 votes and won the PP-108 seat against Nawabzada Mazaffar Ali (PPP) who got 31,580 votes. In PP-109, Chaudhry Abdullah Yousaf (PML-QA) won this seat by getting 37,970 votes while Moeen Nawaz (PPP) bagged 27,200 votes.

The NA-105 was won by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain (PML-QA) by securing 69,819 votes against 52,590 votes managed by Ahmad Mukhtar (PPP). Punjab PML-QA president Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi won his seat PP-110 with a big margin. Mr Elahi clinched 41,446 votes while his rival Tariq Javed Chaudhry (PPP) could obtain 24,456 votes.

Former MPA Mian Imran Masood remained successful for the fourth time from PP-111 by getting 22,166 votes while Mian Fakhar Pagganwala (PPP) obtained 20,725 votes. The NA-106 seat was won by Qamar Zaman Kaira (PPP) by securing 83,336 votes as compared to 69,780 votes obtained by the former acting chief minister Mian Afzal Hayat (MP).

In PP-112, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira (PPP) won this seat by securing 30,212 votes against 26,313 votes of Naseer Sidh (PML-QA). In PP-113, Maria Tariq (PML-QA) won this seat by clinching 16,103 votes while Jaffar Iqbal (PML-N) could manage 11,313 votes. The NA-107 was won by Rehman Naseer (PPP) after securing 61,704 votes while his opponents Noorul Hasan Shah (PML-QA) and Malik Ajmal Sadiq (PML-N) got 47,103 and 51,824 votes, respectively.

In PP-114, Chaudhry Farooq (Junejo League) remained successful by securing 25,970 votes while Malik Ajmal Sadiq (PML-N) got 18,007 votes. The PP-115 was won by Amir Usman (PPP) who secured 31,841 votes against 14,625 votes of Liaquat Bhadar (PML-QA).

The PML-QA remained ahead in the Mandi Bahauddin district where it won one national and four provincial assembly seats while PPP won only one each NA and PA seat.

Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad (PML-QA) won the NA-108 seat by securing 70,020 votes while Zafarullah Tarrar (PPP) obtained 60,393 votes. In NA-109, Maj Zulfiqar (retired) (PPP) won this seat and obtained 71,247 votes against 64,900 votes of Nasir Iqbal Bosal (PML-QA).

In PP-116, Hameeda Waheeduddin (PML-QA) remained successful by clinching 33,190 votes while her rivals Safia Begum (PML-N) and Chaudhry Aslam (PPP) obtained 14,897 and 14,344 votes, respectively. Chaudhry Riaz Asghar Warraich (PML-QA) won his seat (PP-117) by getting 34,454 votes against 31,008 votes obtained by Asad Ali Ranjha (PPP).

In PP-118, Fazal Ikram Ranjha (PML-QA) got 24,601 votes and defeated Liaquat Ali (PPP) who obtained 14,726 votes. Chaudhry Ihsan Elahi (PPP) won PP-119 seat by obtaining 24,784 votes against 21,580 votes of Ghulam Hussain Bosal (PML-QA). In PP-120, Arif Gondal (PML-QA) won by getting 20,196 votes against 19,512 votes of Ahmad Faraz Mangat (PPP).

The PML-QA proved too strong for PML-N and PPP in Jhelum district where it secured one national and three provincial assembly seats.

Chaudhry Shahbaz (PML-QA) won NA-62 seat by securing 74,916 votes against 51,962 votes obtained by Raja Safdar Khan (PML-N). Raja Asad Khan (PML-N) captured his seat NA-63 by getting 46,473 votes against 39,621 votes obtained by Syed Shamas Haider (PML-QA).

In PP-24, Chaudhry Saqlain (PML-QA) secured this seat by taking 40,761 votes against Dr Abdul Qayyum (PML-N) who got 26,426 votes. Tasneem Nasir Iqbal (PML-QA) won the PP-25 seat by taking 38,959 votes against 30,885 votes of Mehar Fiaz (PML-N).

The PP-26 is the only provincial assembly seat which has been captured by PML-N candidate Sheikh Tanvir. He got 17,257 votes against 16,270 votes obtained by Nadeem Khadim (PPP). The PP-27 was won by Nazar Gondal (PML-QA) who got 33,392 votes while Abid Ashraf Jotana (PML-N) obtained 30,326 votes.
