LAHORE, March 15: As many as 47 witnesses will get their statements recorded against accused US national Raymond Davis in coming days before the court of an additional district and sessions judge, trying the accused in the Qartaba Chowk double murder. A copy of the challan (case papers) made available to Dawn on Tuesday reveals that among the witnesses are 30 officials of police, hospital and some other departments concerned.

It says that the registration number LZN-6970 of the vehicle that had reached Qartaba Chowk on Jan 27 to rescue the accused and crushed to death motorcyclist Ibadur Rehman in the process was fake.

According to the challan, the camera seized from the accused revealed nine pictures of various sensitive places of the country and three of the body of deceased Faheem Shamshad.

It said that the claim of the accused that he had killed the two youths in self-defence was wrong. “As no witness saw the youths aiming at Davis with their pistol, the self-defence claim of the accused is wrong. The accused appeared to be an expert in using arms and he could have shot once or twice at the legs of the youths instead of killing them by firing with his pistol 10 times,” the challan further said.

It said that the accused had refused to answer various questions during investigation, stating that US consulate general had forbidden him from doing so.
