PESHAWAR, Oct 11: Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) has won four National Assembly seats and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal bagged three seats in Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur.

The land boasts orchards, rivers, forests and turncoats and of a time warped political history. Hazara has been a stronghold of the PML for over 50 years. But, most of Hazara leaders never hesitated from switching loyalties. When the entire NWFP was with the All India National Congress in 1947, Hazara was with the All India Muslim League. When West Pakistan was with Pakistan People’s Party, Hazara was with the Convention Muslim League. When the country was with Pakistan National Alliance, Hazara was with the PPP.

Now, all other people in the NWFP are with the MMA, but Hazara has elected PML-Q.

Amanullah Khan Jadoon of PML-Q polled 33,954 votes while his immediate rival Dr Azhar Jadoon bagged 18,435 votes from NA-17, Abbottabad-I.  

Sardar Mohammad Yaqoob of PML-Q polled 18,900 votes, while his  main opponent, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, bagged 8,776 votes from NA-18, Abbottabad-II.

Umar Ayub Khan of PML-Q polled 75,972 votes and won NA-19, Haripur, while Syed Sabir Shah of PML (Nawaz) secured 54,942 votes.

Sardar Shahjahan Yousuf of PML-Q has polled 40,218 votes and won NA-20, Mansehra-I. His rival Maulana Ghulam Nabi Shah of MMA bagged 36,735 votes.

Maulana Abdul Malik of MMA polled 21,701 votes from NA-21, Mansehra-II, and his rival Nawabzada Salahuddin of PML-Q secured 14,663. Qari Mohammad Yousuf of MMA defeated Mohammad Nawaz Khan of PML-Q by polling 16,625 votes from NA-22, Battagram. Nawaz Khan of PML-Q bagged 6,465 votes.

Maulvi Abdul Haleem of MMA bagged 2,368 votes, while is immediate rival, Mehboobullah Jan of PML-Q, polled 1,908 votes from NA-23, Kohistan. Former federal minister Abbas Sarfaraz Khan stood third in the race by securing 963 votes.

For the provincial assembly seats, Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani of PML-Q polled 14,700 votes and won PF-44, Abbottabad-I.

He defeated Inyatullah Khan of PML-N, who bagged 9,000 votes.

Qalandir Khan Lodhi, an independent candidate from PF-46, Abbottabad-III, polled 7,534, while his opponent, Malik Manzoor Hussain of PML-N, got 5,987 votes.

Haji Mohammad Iqbal of MMA, running for PF-48,  Abbottabad-V, secured 10,100 votes, his rival Mohammad Idress, an independent candidate, polled 7,000 votes.

The two independent candidates, who were allotted crescent as symbol, won.

Raja Faisal Zaman, son of a former caretaker chief minister, Raja Sikandar Zaman, won from PF-49, Haripur-I. He defeated his nephew, Raja Sheraz Haider. In local bodies polls, Sheraz Haider had defeated Faisal Zaman.

Qazi Mohammad Asad of PML-Q defeated Yousuf Ayub Khan of PML-N and won PF-50, Haripur-II. Akhtar Nawaz Khan, an independent candidate, defeated to Sardar Mohammad Mushat of the PML-N and secured PF-51, Haripur-III. Yousuf Khan and Sardar Mushtaq, both, are former NWFP ministers.

Faisal Zaman of PML-Q won PF-52, Haripur-IV, by giving a crushing defeat to Sabir Shah, provincial chief of PML-N.

Mohammad Shuja Khan, an independent candidate having crescent as symbol, polled 12,875 votes and won PF-53, Mansehra-I,  his rival, Mohammad Tariq Khan Swati of PML-Q, bagged 10,037 votes.

Syed Mazhar Ali Qasim, son of former minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah and an independent candidate for PF-54, Mansehra-II, got 15,274 votes, while his rival, Sardar Abdul Khaliq of PML-Q polled 13,928 votes.

Shahzada Gustasap, an independent candidate, won PF-55, Mansehra-III. He secured 11,656 votes. He defeated Mufti Kifayatullah of MMA, who secured 11,497 votes.

Wajihuzzaman Khan of PML-Q secured 19,966 votes form PF-56, Mansehra-IV, while his opponent Faiz Mohammad Khan, an independent candidate, polled 14,861 votes.

Ghazala Habib of PPP (Sherpao) secured 11,324 votes and won PF-57, while her opponent Naeem Sakhi Tanoli polled 6,610 votes.

Zar Gul Khan, an independent candidate having crescent as symbol, polled 7,469 votes and won PF-58, Mansehra-VI, while his rival Mohammad Zafarullah of MMA bagged 5,428 votes.

Alhaj Mohammad Ayaz Khan of MMA secured 14,542 votes and won PF-59, Battagram-I.  He defeated Niaz Mohammad Khan of PML-Q, who secured 10,241 votes.

Shah Hussain of MMA bagged 6,717 votes and won PF-60, Battagram-II.

He defeated Mohammad Zarif Khan of PML-Q, who bagged 5,434 votes.

The MMA also bagged two seats of Kohistan, but results from the far away hilly areas could not be ascertained.
