QUETTA: No passenger or goods trains could leave Quetta for their destinations on Thursday morning because of the non-availability of diesel and hundreds of people, who had bought tickets, faced hardship.
Passenger trains from Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi arrived as scheduled.The Quetta Express, Jaffar Express, Bolan Mail and Chaman passenger train were not simply brought to the platform on their scheduled times for departure.
On Wednesday, the Pakistan Railways had announced the suspension of train service from Quetta. “We are waiting for our quota of diesel supply from Pakistan State Oil,” an official of the Quetta railway division said, adding that a consignment of diesel was expected to reach on Friday.
He said that sale of tickets and seat reservation would resume after the diesel was received. “The Railways was returning money to those passengers who had purchased tickets for March 17,” he said.
However, some passengers at the station complained that their money had not been refunded and the booking offices were closed. Mohammad Sadiq said there was also no information when the service would resume.
“We have returned money to many passengers today,” PR officials said, adding that the remaining people could get refunds when the sale of tickets resumed.
