NAWABSHAH, March 18: As the temperature here climbed to 40C a shortage of drinking water has added the woes of people already suffering from prolonged power shutdown.

Hesco authorities started shutting down power supply for six to eight hours in the main town and eight to ten hours in suburbs. Loadshedding is being carried out without prior intimation which has resulted in an acute shortage of water.

A local grid station official said that loadshedding hours would increase in coming days.

Residents of Taj Colony, Maunauabad, Essarpura, Pak Colony, Gharibabad, Otaq Quarters, Masjid road, Hospital road, Camp No:2 and Police lines have been without water for a week because of the closure of Gujrawah for repair and maintenance. Gujrawah supplies water to around 70 per cent of the areas.

Executive Engineer Atta Mohammed Chnana said it was the responsibility of taluka municipal administration to supply water to the city. Irrigation Dept had announced a closure of water supply from March 1 to 31, for maintenance, said administrator TMA.
