RAWALPINDI, Oct 12: The outright failure of the Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal candidates in Rawalpindi district is due to party’s failure to enter into seat-adjustment with the PML-N candidates.

A spokesman for the religious parties alliance said the MMA had planned to enter into seat-adjustment with the PML-N but could not materialize it due to the uncompromising attitude of the PML-N leadership.

Commenting on the low profile of religious parties in Punjab, the MMA leader, Mohammad Sadiq Hassan, said the PML-N leaders showed unnecessary haughtiness and ignored the ground realities by not entering into seat-adjustment with the MMA which resulted in the defeat of the MMA and PML-N in Punjab.

Had the PML-N leaders, Raja Zafarul Haq and Zafar Ali Shah, considered the facts and reached an understanding with the MMA candidates, the political map of Rawalpindi in particular and the whole of Punjab in general would be different today, he added.

Mr Hassan attributed party’s success to the sincerity and selflessness of its leaders.

This is the reason due to which people have reposed confidence in them, he added.

He advised the MMA’s candidates, who lost the contest, not to be disappointed instead serve the people of their respective constituencies.

He urged the elected members to try their best to fulfil all the promises they made with the people during the electioneering campaigns.

He said the MMA was united like and it would form the government with mutual understanding.

The spokesman brushed aside the rumours that differences had crept into the alliance of religious parties after the elections.

“There is complete understanding and coordination among all the heads of the MMA component parties. Those who find it hard to believe the phenomenal success of the MMA are spreading such rumours. All such negative hopes will be dashed,” he said.

The spokesman dispelled the impression that the agencies had any hand in the success of the MMA.

People have realised the failures of the incumbent government and its flawed foreign policies, so they voted against the pro- imperialist establishment, he added.

The spokesman said the people were annoyed with the former rulers, civilian as well as military, and now they had shown confidence in the religious parties.

The phenomenal success of the religious parties stunned the people in the country and also sent tremors abroad, especially among the imperialist forces, he added.

“These imperialists will not have a free hand in our affairs and we will restore our sovereignty,” he said.

The MMA leaders including Mohammad Abbas Butt, Raja Mohammad Zaheer Khan, Maulana Abdul Jalil, Mohammad Sadiq Hassan, Raja Abdul Waheed, Dr Mohammad Kamal, Malik Mohammad Azam, Maulana Abdul Jalil Naqvi, Engineer Naveed Ahmad Sheikh, Maulana Mehmoodul Hassan and Zafar Qayyum, have termed electoral victory of their party as a big achievement and thanked the people for their massive support.

Apart from the centre, the MMA will also form governments in the Frontier and Baluchistan provinces, they said in a joint statement.

We will try our best to come up to the expectations of the masses and ensure implementation of our manifesto, the statement added.

The local Amir of the MMA, Mohammad Abbas Butt, said the time had come to make Pakistan the bastion of Islam.

It will prove a beacon of light for the rest of the world, he added.
