I WOULD like to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the menace the people of Sultanpura, Rawalpindi, are facing. It was a peaceful and safe place but now the furniture workshops around the area have made the lives of the residents miserable.

For financial gains, owners are giving their houses on rent to furniture-makers who are taking houses at the rate of Rs10,000 a month which is Rs4,000 more than the actual rent.

These furniture-makers have become a nuisance for the locality as they have turned the area into a furniture market, although it is a residential area.

The furniture-makers use electric equipment to cut and carve wood to make furniture throughout the day till late night. This has made our lives miserable.

Girls and women have been virtually imprisoned in their homes because of the presence of all sorts of unscrupulous people who keep roaming on the streets due to the furniture market. On the other hand, workers at these furniture-making ‘workshops’ play loud music, creating noise pollution.

Heavy vehicles constantly move around the area, transporting furniture all day long.

But the authorities are not concerned about the problems of the residents.

I would like to request law enforcement agencies and the authorities concerned to remove these furniture workshops and markets from the area.
