ISLAMABAD, March 31: Emerging player Nasir Iqbal thrashed experienced Yasir Butt 3-1 in the PSF-CDA Pakistan International Squash Circuit-I final here at the Mushaf Squash Complex on Thursday.

Top seed Yasir, ranked 172 in the world, could not contain the spirit of the 16-year-old underdog Nasir ranked 282nd.

Nasir won the first game at the glass court mainly due to his confidence but also owing to some sloppy display by Yasir who had no answer to his opponent's top shots rammed at the front and back wall of the court. Nasir clinched the first game within a few minutes as the score table read 11-5.

An aggressive Yasir fared better in the second game, making a good comeback to win the game 11-7.

However, Yasir's return was short-lived as Nasir had some surprises for the top seed player as the former won the third game 11-4.

Nasir maintained his composure in the fourth game, not giving any room to Yasir, to claim the game 11—4 and the match.

“This win will boost my career and will make me win upcoming contests both at home and away,” Nasir said after the final, adding that hard work and passion had helped him ensure the win against Yasir.

Vice Chief of Air Staff Tahir Rafique Butt presented the winner's trophy to Nasir besides distributing cash prizes to both Nasir and Yasir.

Result:

Final: Nasir Iqbal bt Yasir Butt 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4.
