KOHAT, Nov 13: NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (rted) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has called upon the teaching community to concentrate on character building of students in order to enable them to face the future challenges.

Speaking at the 36th parent’s day function at Cadet College Kohat (CCK) here the other day, he said the government was exploiting all the resources at its disposal to make quality education available for all with a major emphasis on computer science, technical and vocational education in order to produce skilled manpower.

The governor said the tenacity of the government to the cause of education could be gauged from the fact that it had diverted one fourth of its resources towards education sector.

The government, he added, had established eight universities throughout the province, four each in public and private sector.

He said the universities had been set up at Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and D. I. KHAN in order to decentralize educational institutions. The government, he added, was considering establishing a standard technical education institution at each district, where various skills and vocational training would be imparted to the students.

Mr Shah called upon the teachers to concentrate on education, training and character building of the students in consonance with our values and national traditions. “Our youth must not be narrow- minded and prejudiced and should not be a burden on their parents and society.”

He congratulated those students, who got distinctions in the co-curricular activities, advising them to work hard, which, he said, was the key to success.
