BAHAWALPUR, April 10: As the wheat procurement campaign will begin across the province from April 20, distribution of gunny bags will start in Bahawalpur district from April 18. Over 2.4 million gunny bags will be given to growers in three phases for procuring 0.242 million metric ton wheat whereas 28 procurement centres have been established by the food department.

Supervisory committees have been constituted at all the centres to oversee the distribution process of gunny bags.

The farming community is not happy with the government's decision to give gunny bags on the basis of 'gurdawari' documents of each grower desirous to sell his produce to the food department.

The cultivators feel that by this process, they will have to suffer and wait for days to collect their land record from the respective patwaris and give bribe for the purpose.

They have appealed to the Punjab chief minister to simplify the procedure for gunny bags.
