GUJRANWALA, April 22: Rescue 1122 officials and citizens organized a joint rally on the 'Earth Day' here on Friday.

Led by Rescue 1122 district emergency officer Ayaz Aslam and emergency officer Muhammad Umar, the rally started from Sheranwala Bagh and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk after parading on the GT Road.

A good number of students, teachers, industrial workers and people from other walks of life also participated in the rally.

They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with writings to create awareness about the hazards of environment pollution and their solutions among the general public.

Addressing the participants, District Coordination Officer Nabeel Ahmad Awan and rescue officers urged the people to improve the environment by growing more and more plantation.

They said citizens and traders should also take practical steps to discourage the trend of encroachment.

TRANSFER SOUGHT:

Traders and citizens of Ghakkhar Town on Friday expressed their anguish over the insulting attitude of the Model police station SHO over minor issues and demanded his immediate transfer.

A delegation of traders led by former councillor Muhammad Idris Butt informed senior police officers that a mobile centre owner, Asif, was taken to the police station for an inquiry into a cell phone theft.

They alleged that the SHO insulted and detained traders and the former councillor for four hours when they reached the police station to resolve the issue.

City Police Officer Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said he would investigate the matter and action would be taken against the SHO concerned and other police officials if they were found guilty.

RECOVERED: A bailiff of the Lahore High Court on Friday raided the Model police station in Ghakkhar Town and recovered a man detained illegally at an official quarter of the SHO and produced him before court.

Reports said SHO Mehmood Butt had picked up Ameer Bukhsh Luqman from Rahwali four days back. His mother Farzana filed a petition in the Lahore High Court for the recovery of her son.
