I WOULD like to invite the attention of the authorities of Pakistan Electric Supply Company (Pesco) and Wapda chairman towards the ‘blackout’ in the markets of Chitral.

About 6,000 shopkeepers are pondering closing their businesses, not because of shortage of power but owing to mismanagement by Pesco authorities.

Last year it was decided that there would be no loadshedding in the markets of Chitral during day time. At present we have 700kW electricity from local unit and two MW electricity from the national grid.

It is astonishing to note that markets of the town are experiencing 10 hours of loadshedding during the day which forces us to keep our businesses closed.

Last year the traders’ union observed a shutterdown strike for six consecutive days. As a result, it was decided that the market area would get electricity from the local 700kW powerhouse during the day.

People believe that there are miscreants in Pesco, Chitral, who want to create a law and order situation in the town.

In order to maintain peace, the authorities concerned should ensure smooth supply of electricity to 6,000 consumers in the markets of Chitral.
