LAHORE, Oct 19: The Gujrat Cup, the feature event of the Lahore Winter Meeting, a class III & IV combined handicap race to be contested over a mile at the Racecourse Sunday is billed as a show down between Desert Dream and King Fisher.

Desert Dream is a four-year-old bay colt of exquisite quality from Theatre’s Dream out-of-Desert Breeze. Dark-bay colt King Fisher, is a Derby 2002 conqueror and a progeny of Dexter out-of- Young Dancer. Both are in peak form.

Desert Dream has showed his complete dominance at the Lahore Racecourse by winning ten races including the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup.

While not demeaning the performances of Desert Dream and other four-year-old; King Fisher is a complete horse. His race record is very impressive; eight victories, one second and four thirds in 23 outings so far. Both have already earned their places at the stud.

On Sunday they are vying for another glory not relinquishing without a fight. Weight scales put Desert Dream on better edge in this fifth race in racing order.

The supporting event, the Gojra Plate, a class V handicap race to be contested over a mile has seven acceptors, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. On handicap and form the bay colt Bureaucrat is an outstanding performer and will be on trot to register a hat-trick of triumphs. He has already won two races in-a-row. On each occasion he was a comfortable winner. Perfect Timing, Jet Master and Son Of A Gun may fight for a place on the frame.

The fashionably-bred colt Naseeb is tracking well and should romp home ahead of the field in the term race for two-year-old colts and fillies to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres. The nursery plate is the first race of the day and has nine runners, barring last-minute withdrawals.

In all, six events have been carded for the seventh Lahore Winter Meeting.

Storm Bird, a filly from Dexter out-of- Neptune Dancer owned by Sohrab Khan will also be on a hat-trick trail in the third race. She has won two back-to-back races convincingly and will be going all out to maintain her unbeaten streak. She should be followed by Decent Fellow and Time Is Gold.

The Lala Musa Plate Class VII Division I race to be contested over 1200 metres has been declared void for want of entries.

Meanwhile the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have directed all riders taking part in a race not to leave the scale room until the race has been cleared and all clear bell rung. Those violating the order will be suspended, an LRC notification issued on Saturday said.

The first race will be held at 1.00pm.
