KARACHI: Pakistan one-day captain Shahid Afridi on Sunday criticised coach Waqar Younis for interference in team selection, saying that he would take up the matter with the country's cricket chief.
Pakistani media last week reported that Afridi and Waqar did not get on during the 3-2 one-day series win against the West Indies.
Afridi, not happy with selection matters, on his return home early Sunday lashed out at Waqar.
“Although the differences with the coach are not such which could not be solved... I must say that everyone should do his job and need not interfere in other's work,” Afridi told reporters.
Afridi said he will soon meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt to take up the matter before giving further details to the media.
With a relatively young string, Pakistan won the first three matches comfortably before going down in the last two matches against the West Indies who were also depleted by the non-selection of senior players like Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Afridi regretted his team lost a good chance to win all the matches.
“We should have clean sweet the West Indies but the defeat in the last two matches left a bad taste in the mouth, we flopped in batting and that's why I must say we need a batting coach,” said Afridi, who admitted he was also below par in the series.
“I played average cricket because I was tired after the World Cup and only played the series on the advice of some friends and former players.”
Afridi managed just two wickets in five matches and scored 28 in three innings.

Afridi should respect Waqar as he is senior then him and should let him do his job, coz since he came up as a bowling coach, Pakistans bowling has improved....and at the same time Afridi should concentrate on himself Hes not bowling well these days, lets not talk about batting coz when he comes to bate seems like its his first time..

yep.. you are right but first of all we should not forget that we are human beings and love is our first need and responsibility, give and accept love from human community.... we have to make the world an island of peace,love,brotherhood and prosperity, im not talking about UTOPIA but stiil I say we can do it together NOT ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think thats totally a fault of waqar younis not Afridi he is agood person and enthusiastic caiptan the team selection is his job not of coach he is answerable to everyone on team performance so waqar should not interfere in his affairs . infact he is not a good coach as well. Waqar shoul resign.The chairman should support the Afridi fully.

What Pakistan needs is a captain like Dhoni. Someone who can keep his cool and show leadership under duress. Afridi is a OK player, his batting strengths disappeared long ago and as for bowling, he is no Muralitharan. He is too temperamental and his habit of talking to bowlers after every ball puts unnecessary pressure on them. I think Misbah needs to be groomed for both the formats.

So when will Afridi actually work on his batting!?!? After all these years in the sport, is he saying he still needs a coach to tell how to play.
Come on, I thought this was no longer a part of the team; all this talk about untiy and team work......all seem going donw the drain. AS USUAL. Why am I not surprised.

I dont understand why every conflict or difference of opinion in pak team becomes public. cant this all be sort out among themselves and with concerned authorities with out discussing this issue before press.
everybody has his own approach towards the game, it is but natural that that no two persons can always agree about playing eleven. it must be routinely happening in all teams. Afridi is no Imran that nobody will dare to interfare, and waqar is no woolmer that his ideas will always be welcome.

We need a well mature leader. Afridi lacks this attitude keeping in view his press conferences, his recent comments that after world cup he was too tired to perform better in-fact he went on to say that he was not going there but his friends and seniors advice him to go (I don't see any other captain does this), his announcement of test retirement right in mid of tournament and his batting ability. However, sometime his bowling performance is exceptional. Leader is who lead by example. I don't see any fault at Waqar's end.

Afridi is another all-in-charge captain in the making.
He is not a batsman.
Bowling-more luck than talent.
For capt from the stock we have I'd pick Hafeez or Misbah.

Afridi has never been a responsible captain. As some one rightly said that he is temperamental personality, therefore does not carry a cool, calm and collected head on his shoulders. Pakistan could have won semi final had he tried to stay on wickets and played captain's inning. In my view he does not deserve to be a part of Pakistan's Cricket Team any more.

Waqar should not intervene in the team's selection. He is a Bowling coach should concentrate at his responsibility. When team environment is not favorable the out put would be affected. Why Asad Shafiq was dropped and so on, it reflects that selection criteria is some thing else other than merit.

Here we go again-the proverbial six months itch related to Pakistan Cricket has struck again & to no less a person than the Captain. First, he airs his differences with Waqar, in the media & only after he will meet the PCB brass, to apprise them of the situation in detail-thereby creating another disrupting & unnecessary issue.I,thought that PCB has a code of conduct forbidding players to refrain from making such statements, & if so what is the PCB going to do? now that the cat is out of the bag. As for the team loosing the last two ODI's to WI. Is concerned, Mr. Afridi should look no further than himself-he was AWOL as a Captain as the tournament progressed & to boot his bowling deserted him & as for his batting that is another story, what batting? You might ask. On one hand he claims that he was tired & was forced into going on this tour, by friends & some senior players-make up your mind Mr. Afridi, what is the truth, the two defeats were due to you being tired & going through the motions, or interference from Waqar? I for one have more respect for Waqar's judgment than yours. I suggest that if you want to prolong your career-learn to be a Captain, a Leadre,hard as it may be for you-plus concentrate on your game,particularly your batting-otherwise you may find that your best before date has passed you by.

Some times people in their enthusiasm to do more tend to overstep and interfere in other people's jobs. Afridi needs to resolve his differences with Waqar, player to player rather than making it public, going to media and Butt. Such attitude prevents people from compromising. Selecting the playing XI is captains right but other's inputs should be valued specially people like Waqar. Going by Afridi's record, he seems a bit divisive.

Dont forget Dhoni is the luckiest captain of all time since all of their playing batsmen will easily make into top ten batsmen of today...... even their reserve batsmen are better than our best misbah.....
Afridi is a good captain, he revive the team spirit and should be given more control over his team selection and decisions......
Hahaha.......Misbah has long ago through the age of becoming Groom, and you are talking about grooming him.........

Pakistan needs sensible natural game from Shahid Afridi but not blind and senseless games.
Given a chance to any sensible and healthy person who doesn't have any knowledge about cricket whatsoever, Would have done far more better as a batsman than Shahid Afridi on the basis of average after 100 matches?
Shahid Afridi should stop making the world joke with Pakistan, As Pakistan's series with West Indies is still under process and he should have discussed his issues with Pakistan Cricket Board and should have not talk to media as he did against Indian players as well after the World cup 2011?

Asalamu alaikum readers, i have been watching afridi for years, i think he can be a good captain if his fully aware of captains responsibility. His enthusiastic, talented, young, famous, he can bowl wel, his a good fielder too and he can bat as wel. The only problem with pakistani cricket players is they can't absorb pressure when dey face teams with huge spectators, in my perception dis is coz they don't have exposure, most of the players r not educated, doesnt have comm skills which boosts tremendous confidence to anyone in any field.
I think we should give some more time to Afridi, i am sure he can be a beter leader. Pakistan management seems have fickle minded head, they often change captains now they have chosen Afridi i think they ought to fully understand him the responsibility of a captain n dy need a bating coach as wel

Afridi has proved time and again that he does not have a sensible head on his shoulders. Could not learn to bat consistently despite 15 years of world class cricket exposure, bringing embarrassment to the nation through ball chewing in Australia, negative comments about Indians, stating after losing 02 last games in west Indies that "he only played the series on the advice of some friends and former players.”
And now such irresponsible comments about his coach whom he praised generously just a few days back at more than one occasions.
I wonder if we have anyone capable today to be a responsible person and a captain.
Grow up guys before you soon kill the healthy passion for cricket in Pakistan.
