HYDERABAD, May 18: The entire city remained parched throughout Wednesday due to a major fault occurring in Hesco's vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) installed at the Water and Sanitation Agency's 30MGD filter plant.
The fault developed in filter plant's meter at 9am and rectified late in the evening.
MD, Wasa, Shafiq Arian said that the fault was yet not fully rectified as work on an VCB supplying power to the meter was still going on.
The Hesco-controlled VCB developed a fault which began sparking the links and finally suspended the supply while defect of only one could be addressed so far, he said adding that even standby generator could not be operated as these needed to be connected with the VCB for commissioning. The fault resulted in the day-long suspension of water supply as filter plant is the main source of water supply to entire city.
Water is accumulated in this reservoir from two main lagoons of Wasa and then supplied to a main, near a private hospital on Jamshoro Road and to Thandi Sarak water reservoir. Jamshoro Road pumping station supplies water to Hirabad, Kali Mori, Qasimabad and surrounding areas while Thandi Sarak reservoir to all units of Latifabad and other parts. It also provides water to Pucca Qilla water storage facility.
Water supply resumed at around 7.30pm from filter plant and took two hours to accumulate in two pumping stations and another two hours to restore supply.
