SUKKUR, May 25: Taking suo motu notice of a jirga verdict, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has ordered production of all people involved in it before the court.

A jirga was held on May 6 in Pano Akil to settle a land dispute between two groups of Mahar community which had claimed four lives in three years in Lakhi Ghulam Shah in Shikarpur district.

The jirga decided to marry off 12 girls of one group to their rivals for settling the row.

The CJP taking notice of jirga verdict ordered the District Police Officer (DPO) of Sukkur Aitezaz Goraya through the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) to produce all people in the court in Islamabad on May 27, including Wadera Mohammad Ibrahim Mahar who chaired the jirga and passed the verdict.

DPO Sukkur confirmed receiving directives from the CJP and assured its implementation. He said that he along with people involved in jirga would be produced before the court on specific date.

It may be noted that three men of Malook Mahar group - Ghous Bux, Hazoor Bux, Sobharo and Achar Mahar were killed by their rivals Hasil Mahar group in clashes over a land dispute.

Subsequently, a jirga was held in the katcha area of Bhindo Mahar in the jurisdiction of Raza Goth police station near Pano Akil on May 6, to settle it. The jirga told Hasil Mahar group to marry their 12 girls in Malook Mahar's family and also pay Rs2.2 million.

DPO Goraya raided the site of jirga on receiving the information and also directed the Raza Goth police to register a case and arrest all people involved in the jirga.

Police also registered an FIR and arrested Mir Mohammad Mahar but couldn't find his father Mohammad Ibrahim and others.

WATCHMAN KILLED: A watchman at a fish farm died and his colleague suffered injuries when they tried to stop a gang of armed thieves from stealing fish and were fired upon in Tando Bhoorao village near Rohri on Wednesday.

Mohammad Azhar Mirani and his nephew Gul Bahar who worked as watchmen at the fish farm owned by Mohammad Imran Kamboh were fired upon when tried to stop the thieves.

Mohammad Azhar was killed on the spot and Gul Bahar was injured.

Area police took the body and the injured to Rohri taluka hospital. Gul Bahar was admitted and the body of his uncle was handed over to relatives after post mortem.

No case was registered till late Wednesday evening.

Woman killed: A woman was killed in mysterious circumstances in Dargah village near Salehpat town on Wednesday.

Ms Anwer Khatoon, wife of Sabir Shah, had a bullet wound to her chest, and her relatives brought her body to Rohri taluka hospital without informing police but doctors refused to carry out post mortem on it.

On this, the relatives took the body back to the village without having post mortem.

According to area people, the woman had been killed on the pretext of karo-kari. Some said she had committed suicide.

But the woman's husband, Sabir Shah, told journalists that her brother might have killed her because he wanted to sell a valuable plot of land which was jointly owned by them but his wife did not allow its sale.

Mr Sabir said that her brother was not in contact with them after the incident.

Writing head constable Ghous Bux said that no one had approached Salehpat police station to lodge an FIR about the incident.

Police were informed by journalists and were preparing to go to the village to take the body into custody, he said.
