HYDERABAD, Oct 23: The All Pakistan Trade Unions Organization (APTUO) has condemned the privatization of the Thatta Cement Factory and said it will add to unemployment.
In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, APTUO secretary-general S. P. Lodhi, chairman Bashir Ahmad and provincial general-secretary Mehboob Ali Qureshi said the factory was being disposed of at a throw-away price.
They said the government must guarantee the rights and service of the workers if it wanted to privatize the factory.
workshop: A four-day training workshop on “Information Handling Techniques” started at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, on Wednesday.
The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC), in collaboration with the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMCS) of the Sindh University, has orgainzed the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said the university was conducting workshops to provide proper training not only to library personnel but also to staff of other institutes of the university.
He said measures had been taken to link the central library with libraries of the world and added proper training to library personnel was a step in that direction.
He lauded the services of the PASTIC for providing technical assistance to the university for the training of the library personnel.
The deputy director, PASTIC, Nageen Ainuddin, said the objective of the workshop was to familiarize the participants with WINISIS — computer programme used for library information management.
She said the features of the course included a system overview of WINISIS, data structure, data entry, indexing techniques, searching expressions and retrieval, import and export of data files, sorting and printing.
The chief librarian of the Allama I.I. Kazi Library, Dr Rafia Ahma Shaikh, said the workshop was the follow-up of a two-week refresher course, organized by the IMCS in June.
She informed about 50 people, including the library staff of the Sindhi Adabi Board, Sindh Textbook Board and Sindhi Language Authority, were attending the workshop.
ADMISSION FEE: The director admissions, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has announced the date to pay admission fee for second year MBA (evening programme), 2002-2003 session, has been extended up to Nov 5.
MERIT LIST: The registrar of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, on Wednesday announced the final merit list for admission in the university and the People’s Medical College, Nawabshah, had been displayed in the parking area of the campus.
Regular classes will commence from Nov 1.
SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission, Hyderabad, has announced 248 candidates have qualified the written test for the posts of Mukhtiarkar in the revenue department.
SLAUGHTER HOUSE: The director-general, livestock and fisheries, Sindh, Dr Baz Mohammad Junejo, visited the under-construction slaughterhouse near Husri here on Wednesday.
Dr Junejo said the project Rs19 million , started by the Sindh government with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank, would be completed within one month.
He expressed the hope the completion of the slaughterhouse would help increase the export of meat.
He said the project was the biggest of its kind in the country, having a cattle colony and cattle Piri and other facilities of water, fodder, grass, veterinary hospital and transportation.
