KOHAT, May 29: Police foiled an attempt of smuggling drugs and arrested a woman and a man on Kohat-Hangu Road here the other day.

The Ustarzai police recovered five kilograms of hashish from the handbag of a woman, Yasmeen Bibi, and arrested her during checking of vehicles, coming from Orakzai Agency. Police also arrested a man, Qabil, accompanying the woman. They were sent to district prison and a case was registered against them.

An official told this correspondent that the accused were held on Friday and a case was registered against them on Saturday. He alleged that an inspector demanded Rs60,000 from them for their release. However, the news leaked to media and police officers registered a case against them.

In another incident of extortion and illegal gratification, the officials of Cantt police station allegedly snatched Rs6,000 and a cellular phone set from Daleep, a resident of Kurram Agency, who was going to Peshawar four days ago.

He was deprived of his belongings at a checkpost near Tableeghi Markaz.— Correspondent
